In the text “Unfinished Business,” I wrote that I hoped you would see that you “are part of a much larger and longer story than just the immediate concerns of the current moment” (Kenyon 3). Are you? Decide the answer to that question and defend that answer by using one text from each of the eras we studied to show why you feel you are or are not part of that long story.
And the instructions are as followed.
With the question above, write an argument that answers that question. You must use (that means quote and properly cite) one piece of literature from each era to help you support your argument. The parameters are as follows:
Length — 1,000-1,500 words.
Sources — ONLY the literature. You may not use any other outside sources (cited or not) to help you.
Format — Standard essay format with an introduction, five body paragraphs (one for each era) and a conclusion. Double-spaced in a readable font is preferred.
Quotations — I prefer that you use quotations rather than paraphrase. However, if you want to summarize a portion of a story or poem, that’s fine, too, but remember summaries must be cited, too. For more about citations, please keep reading.
Citations — Fiction and non-fiction: Author and page number. Poetry: Author and line number(s). If citations are still a mystery to you, then please Zoom in to one of my office hours or the writing discussion so I can talk you through it.
Grading
The paper is worth 30 points, and it will be graded for content (how well you answer the question — 10 points), organization (the format and citations — 10 points), and writing (-1 point for every 3 writing errors up to a loss of 10 points).
